An idea was cooking inside my head for an extended period of time; I spoke with a good friend of mine Sumit Nandi, who is a professional sound engineer and the Owner of Bluemorph Records & Crescendo Studio, about organizing an Open Mic in a distinct way.
Instead of choosing a pub or a café as a venue I wanted to do it inside a recording studio in front of a cozy crowd. My Friend Sumit grabbed my proposal & we started working on it from January onwards & we managed to organize it inside his recording studio – Crescendo Studio in an unplugged style and we invited 7 solo and Band Acts for the performance.
Starting off the evening with a soulful performance by Soumyadip Chakraborty who is by profession an executive engineer and by passion a singer and songwriter, has performed his two original compositions.. Soumyadip previously worked with few bands during his college days & he is a classically trained vocalist, his songwriting is also very realistic. His songs “Opomrityu” & “Nabalika” both reflected the realistic writing which is more appreciated by like-minded crowd
Next act was by Bissho, and energetic performer and the front man of an alternative rock band named “Delete”. His Simple and straightforward songwriting and the awesomesauce work and performances by his band have fetched them 13000 + fans on their facebook Fan Page. Bissho played his own 3 original compositions back to back only with his acoustic guitar. His acoustic rendition sounded pretty good & crowd admired their work.
After these 2 acts it was time for us to call our special guest of the evening Sankha Subhra Ghosh who took the stage on behalf of his band “Feather Touch”. He performed 2 bengali original compositions from his upcoming album “Porir Sorir” & “Tui”. As our special guest he also shared some inspiring stories with us. Sankha is a popular musician from kolkata and previously he had played & shared the stage with few big names from the music industry. Apart from playing with his band “Feather Touch” he plays with city’s legendary classic rock band “Hip Pockets”.
Suspended Fifth took the stage right after our special guest’s performance. Suspended Fifth is a Bengali alternative rock band with a blend of few different genres. They have been featured on NDTV, Akash Bangla & Rupasi Bangla. They were the winner of Fever Fm Band hunt, unish kuri youth fest & many other band competitions. The band performed 3 amazing songs and it was even so awesome that, the crowd was requesting them to play again by shouting “Once More”. I really loved their composition, poetic songwriting with a touch of classic literature & vocal modulation of the vocalist.
Up next our host Shreyas Sengupta performed some old rock n roll & pop numbers. Shreyas is an IT professional & he is also passionate about music, currently he is busy writing new stuff. Shreyas’s performance was energetic yet melodic. It reminded me Bryan Adams MTV Unplugged Concert.
After that I, Soham Bhattacharya played some of my old & upcoming song. Crowd requested me to play few of my old hits such as “I miss youuu” & “when you say”. As a creative director of the event it felt like heaven, to share the different side of my creativity. You Can Also CheckOut My Tracks On FireMud FM From here.
Last but not the least it was time for ‘Slap n Clap’, a newly formed alternative rock band, an initiative by the vocalist Chiku & guitarist Arindam. The duo started working on their debut EP & later on their bassist & drummer came on board. I’ve already heard some of their scratch recording earlier & trust me you all gonna love their EP I’m sure, which will be releasing soon this year (as told by chiku-the vocalist). Slap n clap played 2 songs from their upcoming EP & a cover. They sounded really tight all together. They conclude the show with their performance.
It was really a magical evening, all the team member worked really hard to make this dream come true. We decorated the stage like old folk blues festival just like Pete Seeger used to organize’ Newport folk festival’. It was our tribute to those people whom we worship & love.
